Vrat means fasting and fasting is basically controlling your urge your emotions . Fasting generates positivity.

 Mahalaxmi Vrat as Maa Laxmi –the goddess of wealth and prosperity. We keep this fast for children because the true asset for us is our children . On this day we pray for the prosperity, good health and fulfillment of the dreams of our children. Every dream of ours is actually related to their dreams so no doubt a human being is selfish creature.

No food and water is consumed during the daylight hours. Keep yourself away from all evil and negativity. Rely  totally on almighty lord for the strength and positivity.
